For some years now the Christmas lights in Totnes have been the responsibility of the Chamber of Commerce. This is in contrast to towns and cities throughout the country where the local council takes charge and consequently have chosen, or been forced, to cut back or cancel altogether the local displays. With this economic backdrop in mind we have decided that all the money donated by businesses to support the Christmas Festival (and display this year's design of a Father Christmas, decal), will be ring-fenced specifically to maintain and improve the lighting display for next year. This will help guarantee that the town's Christmas lights will continue to burn brightly ( or not so brightly, but more beautifully, in the case of LED's ) in future years. Yet again we have great display this year thanks to the maintenance and installation work carried out voluntarily by Andy Garner and his team. If any members have suggestions about how to improve the lights please let Andy or any Executive Committee member know, bearing in mind that a single lighting banner across the street can cost from 2-3 thousand pounds. If Mike Kann has not called on you yet please feel free to make a donation to any Exec. member. In the meantime, have fun  with your own Christmas decorations. Perhaps one year we'll all be  colour co-ordinated !!
